Thinkpad x100e

Thinkpad x100e

At the starting of 2010, the ThinkPad x100e was introduced which is an ultra-portable 11.6 sized net book which offered the ThinkPad computing experience but with a compact size. The ThinkPad x100e is truly portable with good ergonomics and phenomenal keyboard, but the configuration is not up to the level with single-core AMD M780G Neo CPU.

This Net book falls in the middle of cheaper laptops and large screened smart phones. It has dual core AMD Turion processor which is suitable for business people and the battery life has improved when compared to previous models. The price range starts from 529 dollars and is suitable for all uses with a weight ranging starting below 3 pounds.

X100e key features

* Sub-3 lbs. starting weight
* Small footprint
* Roomy 11.6″ HD display
* Available in Midnight Black and Heatwave Red in smooth finishes (Arctic White not available in the US)
* ISO full-sized, spill-resistant keyboard
* TrackPoint® and multitouch touchpad
* Powerful AMD processor
* Low-light-sensitive Web camera
* Multiple connectivity options
* ThinkVantage® Technologies
* Corporate OS support
* Robust warranty options
* 3 USB ports (1 powered), 4-in-1 media card reader and HD audio

It is available in different colors including black, bright red and others with clean, smooth lines surrounding the chassis making it quite attractive. The diagonal ThinkPad logo is present in the front corner of the lid which looks quite distinguishing. The 6-cell lithium ion battery bulges from the back and gives a standby time of minimum 3 hours. The X100e model is denser and heavier when compared to other net books. The palm rest is very smooth and small which lies below the full-size attractive key board. The power button is present above the keyboard’s right side and there are dual hinges which helps the lid to open up to 180 degrees that is very useful for lap-typers.

The chiclet-style keyboard is very comfortable to use with sufficient key spacing and size making it very useful for frequent travelers. There is also a track point control button which is present in between H, B and G keys which is not much helpful though some people use it as a mouse. The multi-touch pad is smooth but very small and is not that comfortable and has large track pad buttons above it that limits the space.

The matte screen with 11.6 inch diagonal radius is very great with a native resolution of 1,366×768 pixels which indicates that the web pages will not cut off and the applications are not as crowded similar to upper toolbars. The screen clarity and readability of contents is very good with the display and viewing angles are much better. The stereo speakers which are present in the underside of ThinkPad have sufficient volume but the audio quality is hollow and not so food. It is enough for video chat and basic video/audio playback but it is not a good choice for music.

The ThinkPad also has built-in Webcam in the screen front and a SD Card reader and 2 USB ports on the side. There is Wi-Fi and blue tooth support and a combo jack for connecting micro phones and head phone. There is an in-built ATI Radeon graphics chipset which helps in producing smooth video experience, but does not create enough graphics for latest games. Overall this net book is suitable for business users who travel frequently.
