Hackintosh Netbooks Can Take Heart, 10.6.2 Fix Is Coming

apple-atom-ban

Those of you who have broken their hackintoshed netbooks with the latest 10.6.2 Mac OS update – you guys should seriously start paying some attention around here. Last time, I gave you a heads up about Apple taking about Atom support on the latest update. Even in the Monday round up I told you that the 10.6.2 breaks hackintosh netbooks.

But fret not, help is on the way. The person who made the netbooksinstaller app has said that the kernel will be fixed. It will just take some time to get there. [read]

Qualcomm’s First Smartbook May Be Announced On the 12th

qualcomm-smartbook

Qualcomm has this analyst meeting n the 12th and they are expected to reveal their new smartbook at the meeting. No one is quite sure what to expect though. It could be a finished product or it could be a prototype.

Whatever it is, it will be an ARM chip powered device that is somewhere between an UMPC and a netbook. The lines that distinguish these things from each other are getting even blurrier these days. [read]

That Windows 7 Starter Has Missing Features Is News To Consumers

gadgetology110409_chart3new-1Retrevo has conducted a survey on how much consumers know about the Windows 7 Starter edition and its difference from the rest of the editions. It appears that they are not very updated on what separates it from the otherthe editions. Over 60% were not aware of the fact that Starter has some key features missing.

One of the many pitfalls of being greedy and having too many editions of the same OS I suppose. Unless they know it is limited, they wouldn’t want to upgrade. [read]

Nokia Imagines The Future: Circa 2015

Nokia has a vision, a vision of a sleek future where mobile devices are uber cool gadgets that have dual touchscreens and can play games that are 10 times better than Crysis.

Okay, that is not exactly what they are envisioning but I would love it if they do! Nokia has this device on their mind that has two parts and both are touchscreen enabled. It can be also separated to become a smaller handheld device when you want to travel with them. It will be able to process high quality video and will be able to do all the things that you want and need from a mobile computing device. It will probably also make calls but then we might not need to call anyone the conventional anymore in 5 years.

5 years is how long Nokia thinks it will take to make this happen. I.e. they are targeting the year 2015. Cool, we won’t have to wait all that long then. [read]

Belkin’s (Almost) Universal Netbook AC Adapter

belkin-adapter

Do you own multiple netbooks? If you do, leave a comment and tell me why you need more than one netbook. If you are gadget hacker, I understand and you can leave a link to your creations instead of an explanation. The rest of you – tell me, please. I am immensely curious.

Anyway, if you do have netbooks in the multiples and you want to carry only one AC adapter for them all, you can choose one from the two new universal ac adapters that Belkin has released especially for netbooks. There’s a 40W version for £39.99 that charges Acer, Asus, HP, Dell, Samsung and Toshiba. And there’s a 90w version for £49.99 that adds Sony and Fujitsu to its compatibility list.

But beware, it may not work all that well because each netbook has its own power adapter standards. Belkin just gives you a lot of different tips to go along with your netbooks. Plus, the power brick looks kinda cool. [read]

Asus T91MT Has Updated Touch Software

asus_t91_folded

Asus has released their upgraded T91 called the T91MT (for multitouch). Other than the additional benefit of being able to use more than one finger, it also seems to have a new touch interface.

This cool little convertible netbook comes with a maximum of 2GB RAM and 32GB SSD storage. The interface looks pretty nice on video but only a hands-on experience will tell us what it’s really like. But Asus has certainly grown since the original T91. [read]

Best Buy To Sell $249 Netbook

Looks like Best Buy wants to put out a little pre Black Friday magic with an offer of a $249 netbook. You can bet that it is not going to be something spectacular but if all you will be doing are surfing and checking Facebook, Twitter etc. then why not?

The key features include a Celeron 900 processor, 2GB RAM and 160GB HDD. It is a model from Acer and it has a 15.4inch screen. It will come with Windows 7 Home Premium as the OS. [read]

HTC Planning To Enter Netbook Market

HTC CEO has spilled the beans (in a way) and confirmed that the company is indeed looking into the netbook market. But they are holding back from announcing anything because they want to contribute something unique to the market. They do not want to punch out a YAN (Yet Another Netbook) and that I think is good news.

But we already have HD video, GPS, accelerometer, 3G modem and touchscreen convertibles in the segment. We also have the hackintoshes. What else do they plan to bring in? [read]

ThinkPad Netbook Gets A Date [?]

thinkpad-x200e-spy-shot

Rumorsville is at it again. The rumored ThinkPad has just gotten itself a release date. Rumors say that the launch will take place on 5th January 2010. Since they are pointing out such a specific date, either they have a really deep source or Lenovo is a really leaky company. Or may be the date is totally off the mark. But we do have pictures to prove that at the very least it has been prototyped (and branded too!). [read]
